It can protect applications that have no other failover options and make high availability possible for applications that might otherwise be left unprotected.

HA isolates applications from Operating System failures by automatically restarting virtual machines when failure is detected.

Automatically Restarts Virtual Machines

Auto-restart VMware HA continuously monitors all physical servers in a resource pool and restarts virtual machines affected by server failure.

It detects server failures automatically, using a “heartbeat” on servers allowing it to automatically restart virtual machines almost instantly on a different physical server.

It continuously monitors and chooses the best physical server on which to restart the virtual machines (if used in conjunction with VMware DRS).

VMware HA is included in VMware Infrastructure Standard and Enterprise editions.
