Specialist Fibre Optic Services

interconnect have invested in the latest equipment to terminate and test fibre optic cabling

Where extended distances or links to separate buildings are required, fibre optic cabling is incorporated into the design.

Terminating fibre optic links is a specialist job, which requires trained engineers.

In order to certify our fibre installations, interconnect utilise the following methods:

Fusion Splicing-

This creates a controlled "weld" of the fibre joint in order to terminate the cable. This is the most accurate method of on-site termination.

O.T.D.R testing-

Using Optical Time Domain Reflectometers, we can verify the quality of a fibre installation, not just at the end connections, but along its entire length.

This is often used to identify the location of any problems or damage to previously installed fibre optic links.
The types of fibre used are selected based upon the design requirements for the network.

Recently, fibre optic cable have been re-classified as follows:

OM1 - 62.5/125 multimode fibre
This is the most common LAN fibre currently installed in the UK

OM2 - 50/125 multimode fibre

OM3 - a higher grade of 50/125 multimode fibre. This is recommended where migration to 10Gigabit Ethernet is planned.

OS1- 9/125 Singlemode fibre.
